Dr. Ruiz has been instrumental in helping to plan for the addition of a dental clinic. The Lake Area Free Clinic Dental Clinic opened in the Fall of 2017, and provides dental care to Waukesha County adults who have limited or no access to traditional dental care due to cost. Dr. Ruiz volunteers at the Dental Clinic once a month, providing extraction services to patients in need.
Fundraising to support the Lake Area Free Clinic is always ongoing. Our team members and doctors took up a free will donation, earmarked for the LAFC Dental Clinic. We are proud to support the clinic and the many patients it will serve!
On August 14, 2008, Teresa Krier lost her life to pancreatic cancer. She inspired many with her positive attitude and contagious smile while fighting a courageous battle. Her hope and humor gave others strength, even when she had none.
Teresa simply loved life. Her experience as a breast cancer survivor taught her that life is fragile, so she squeezed every moment out of it. Her faith was strong, and at the end, she was at peace and ready to be called home.
Though we miss her deeply, we are moved by the opportunity to help others in the fight against pancreatic cancer through Teresa’s Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer that was established in her memory.
- Pancreatic cancer has a 96% mortality rate within five years of diagnosis.
- Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, yet it receives little public attention and few federal dollars for research.
Our desire is to honor Teresa and keep her memory alive by inspiring and educating others, increasing awareness, and working toward finding a cure for pancreatic cancer.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, Lakeland Family Dentistry became the first Dementia-Friendly business in Waukesha County. The prevalence of dementia is rapidly expanding, and Dr. Eric Ruiz, Dr. Sam Ruiz, and our staff recognize the need for proper training in order to treat all our patients with the same level of expert care.
We are aware that some of our patients or their family members are personally touched by this life-altering condition. Dr. Eric Ruiz, Dr. Sam Ruiz, and our staff feel that anything we can do to make dental visits and treatment as pleasant and streamlined as possible for all our patients, their caregivers, and family is very important.
A couple of dementia statistics:
- 1 out of 9 individuals age 65 and over has Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.
- In 2010, there were 8,544 individuals with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease in Waukesha County.
