Dear Valued Patients,

We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health!  Our community has been through a lot over the last couple of months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

At Lakeland Family Dental, we take great pride in treating our patients compassionately and safely.  We have always maintained strict adherence to Universal Precautions and infection control regulations from the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).  Given the COVID-19 crisis, continued commitment and follow up with these regulations will remain our top priority.  For those not familiar, “Universal Precautions” is an approach to infection control that treats all human blood and body fluids as if they were known to be infectious for HIV, Hepatitis, and other pathogens that cause communicable diseases.  We use hospital grade disinfectants on all surfaces in the office, from dental chairs, to countertops, to door handles, and everything in between.  All of our instruments, equipment, and barriers are either single use or sterilized in a hospital grade autoclave, which utilizes pressured steam at 250°F to kill disease causing viruses and bacteria.  We have been practicing Universal Precautions well before any of us had ever heard the term “COVID-19”.

That being said, we are enhancing our existing infection control protocols and changing our normal patient flow to treat our patients in an even safer manner.  Here are some of the new changes we will be implementing:

-We ask you to wait in your car and call us when you have arrived for your appointment.  Our goal is to use our waiting room as little as possible to maximize social distancing recommendations

-Over the phone, we are asking universally accepted screening questions to increase safety for all.  We are also using these screening questions on our Lakeland team members each day

-We will be taking temperatures on each patient using touchless forehead thermometers, as well as each Lakeland team member every day

-We are requesting those who can arrive alone for their appointment to do so, unless accompanying a minor child &/or special needs patient

-We encourage you to wear a face-covering into our clinic

-Our level of PPE (personal protective equipment) has been enhanced in accordance with the most recent recommendations.  Our clinical team will be utilizing KN95 masks and face shields during care.  Our patient coordinators will be behind plexiglass shields and practicing social distancing when they greet you.  Although we may “look a little different”, we are still the same warm, caring, skilled people you know behind the masks!

As many of you know, we have limited our patient care to emergencies only since March 18th, 2020, following recommendations and guidelines in the wake of COVID-19.  However, we are happy to announce that we anticipate returning to include all routine dental appointments in the very near future.  Be rest assured that we will continue to monitor the current situation, and will implement further recommendations and changes if needed to keep our office a safe place to receive dental care.

We’ve missed our patients dearly, and look forward to seeing you again soon!  We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice.  We have team members available to answer your questions at 262-567-1323 or email at [email protected]

Thank you for being our patient.  We value your trust and loyalty, and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors, and friends!

Warmest Regards,

Dr. Ruiz, Dr. Sam and your Lakeland Family Dental Team
